Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data the Asky survey app ("Asky", "we", "us") collects, why we collect it, how we store and protect it, and the rights you and your customers have. Last updated 20 May 2026.

1. Who this policy covers

Asky is a Shopify app installed by merchants ("you") to collect post-purchase feedback from your customers ("shoppers"). For data we process on your behalf, you are the data controller and Asky acts as your data processor. For data about you as our customer, Asky is the controller. This policy describes both roles.

2. Data we collect

When you install and use Asky, we collect and process:

  • Survey responses — the answers shoppers submit (ratings, choices and free-text), along with the question they answered and a timestamp.
  • Order identifiers — the Shopify order id associated with a response, so feedback can be tied to a purchase.
  • Customer email address — where available from the order, used to associate responses and to support follow-up by the merchant.
  • Order and customer context — limited fields such as order value, currency, products purchased, country, language and customer status, used to apply your targeting rules and analytics.
  • Merchant account data — your store domain, contact email and app settings, used to operate and bill the app.
  • Technical and usage data — survey impressions, completion events, IP-derived region and basic device information, used to measure response rates and prevent abuse.

We do not collect payment card numbers, and we do not sell personal data.

3. How we use data

Survey and order data is processed solely to provide the service to you, the merchant: rendering surveys, recording responses, applying targeting rules, producing analytics, tagging orders and customers, and sending the alerts you configure. Merchant account data is used to operate, secure, support and bill the app. We process this data on the legal bases of performing our contract with you and our legitimate interest in running and improving the service.

4. Sharing and sub-processors

We share data only with infrastructure and service providers needed to run Asky (for example cloud hosting and, if you enable them, the Slack or Discord webhooks you configure). These sub-processors act under contract and only on our instructions. We disclose data when required by law. We never sell or rent personal data.

5. Data retention

Survey responses and associated order context are retained for as long as your store has Asky installed, so you can review historical feedback and trends. When you uninstall the app, we retain the data for up to 30 days to allow for re-installation, after which it is deleted or anonymized. We may keep aggregated, non-identifying statistics indefinitely.

6. Data deletion and customer rights

We honor Shopify's mandatory data-protection webhooks. When a shopper requests their data or erasure, or when a store is deleted, Shopify notifies Asky and we respond accordingly — providing the relevant records or deleting personal data within the required window. You can also request deletion of specific responses or your entire dataset at any time by contacting support@askysurveys.com.

Under the GDPR, CCPA and similar laws, individuals have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port their personal data, and to object to processing. Because Asky is a processor for shopper data, such requests are normally directed to the merchant; we will assist the merchant in fulfilling them.

7. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS) and stored on secured infrastructure. Access is restricted to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis. While no system is perfectly secure, we apply industry-standard safeguards to protect the data we hold.

8. International transfers

Data may be processed in countries other than where you or your shoppers are located. Where personal data is transferred out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Children

Asky is intended for use by merchants and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above and, where appropriate, notifying you in-app or by email.
