Adding the survey to post-purchase pages

Asky reaches customers at the moment they're most engaged — right after they pay. This guide explains the two ways it appears on your post-purchase pages and how to control which survey shows.

Two ways Asky appears

Asky can render on your post-purchase pages through two complementary mechanisms. Most merchants use both, and they work together without conflict.

The theme app embed

The embed is the one-time activation you turn on in your theme editor. Once enabled, it lets Asky place surveys on the order-status page (the page customers return to from order emails) automatically, based on your targeting rules. You don't position anything by hand — Asky handles placement.

The native checkout app block

The checkout app block is a survey block you drop into the thank-you page using Shopify's checkout and thank-you editor. It gives you precise control over where on the page the survey sits, and it's the recommended way to add Asky to the immediate post-checkout moment.

The embed is a one-time activation. Enable Asky Survey Embed once under Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds. After that, surveys go live through your targeting rules with no further theme edits.

Placing the block in the checkout / thank-you editor

To add the survey block to your thank-you page:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout and click Customize on your active checkout configuration.
  2. Switch to the Thank you page from the page selector at the top of the editor.
  3. Click Add app block in the section where you want the survey, then choose Asky Survey.
  4. Drag the block to the position you prefer and Save.

The same flow works for the order-status page if you'd rather place the block manually instead of relying on the embed.

The survey is always its own container

However Asky appears — embed or app block, thank-you or order-status — the survey renders as its own independent, self-contained container. It doesn't depend on the surrounding section's layout and won't inherit unexpected styles from neighbouring blocks. This keeps the survey looking consistent across every placement and makes it safe to move around the page.

Targeting which survey shows

You can have several active surveys at once. Asky decides which one to show using the targeting rules you set in the survey editor. Rules can match on:

  • Product — show a survey only when a specific product is in the order
  • Country and language — localise which survey appears
  • Order value — ask different questions of higher-value orders
  • Customer status — first-time versus returning customers

When multiple surveys could match, Asky picks the best fit so each shopper sees one relevant survey. Adjust priority and conditions per survey to fine-tune the experience.

Once your placement and rules are set, head to Viewing & filtering responses to start reading what customers tell you.
